Selling your worn underwear anonymously: protecting your identity

A worn piece sells well because it is personal. The paradox is that this personal dimension becomes a risk the moment a name, a face or an address attaches to it. In Switzerland, where circles are tight-knit — Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lugano — the slightest leak can travel fast.

The real risks are well known: cross-referencing a pseudonym with a personal account, a postal address legible on a label, a screenshot of a conversation, a photo containing an identifying detail in the background. None of these failings is spectacular. All are avoidable. Discretion plays out in the details, and that is precisely where we set our standard.

You open your atelier under a pseudonym of your choosing. Buyers never see your name, address or number — only that pseudonym and a badge.

Your identity is verified once, privately, by our independent provider, in the EU — an official document and a liveness check, about one minute. That is what keeps minors out of selling. Weared receives neither a copy of the document nor any biometric data: only the result, the date and your date of birth.

The majority of unintentional identifications come from images. A few habits are enough to avoid them:

• Face and distinctive marks out of frame — tattoos, prominent moles, recognisable jewellery.
• Neutral background: avoid post lying on a piece of furniture, a family photo, a view through the window that pins down your neighbourhood.
• Metadata: some photos carry geolocation. Weared strips this data on publication, but get into the habit of disabling your device's location.
• Mirrors and reflections: check that no reflection reveals your face or an identifiable object.

Our register always remains suggestive and elegant. A beautiful piece is shown off by light and material, never by the explicit.

A conventional bank transfer carries your name, your IBAN, sometimes a telling reference. That is a breach. At Weared, settlements are made in cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Lightning): no banking details are exchanged, no compromising reference appears on a statement.

And the mechanics are deliberately simple: the buyer pays directly to your own address, Weared does not touch the money from sales paid in bitcoin. So you are paid as soon as the purchase is made, with no waiting. Trust rests instead on the sellers' public reputation (completed sales), the mandatory postal tracking number, moderation and the dispute procedure.

This is the most sensitive point, and the one most often overlooked elsewhere. A parcel label usually displays an address in plain sight. Weared relies on the Swiss network of PickPost pick-up points and My Post 24 lockers: you drop off and the buyer collects via a code / QR, without your home address ever appearing.

Shipping is neutral: plain packaging, with no mention of the nature of the contents or of the brand. No one, in your circle or in the buyer's, can guess what is passing through.

Weared is a Swiss entity, active throughout Switzerland, in Swiss francs. Reserved for adults (18+), the space is carefully moderated to remain a hushed and respectful place.
