Selling your worn underwear anonymously: protecting your identity

Selling an intimate worn piece is a kind of confidence. Yet one must be able to share it without ever revealing oneself. In Switzerland, the question of anonymity is not a matter of mere comfort: it is the very condition of your peace of mind. At Weared, we have designed the entire house around a simple, non-negotiable principle — you remain unknown, from the first message to the handover of the parcel.

This guide explains, concretely, how to protect your identity at every stage, and why certain habits picked up elsewhere expose you without your knowing it.

Why anonymity is not optional

A worn piece sells well because it is personal. The paradox is that this personal dimension becomes a risk the moment a name, a face or an address attaches to it. In Switzerland, where circles are tight-knit — Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lugano — the slightest leak can travel fast.

The real risks are well known: cross-referencing a pseudonym with a personal account, a postal address legible on a label, a screenshot of a conversation, a photo containing an identifying detail in the background. None of these failings is spectacular. All are avoidable. Discretion plays out in the details, and that is precisely where we set our standard.

Your identity is never visible to other members

You open your atelier under a pseudonym of your choosing. Buyers never see your name, address or number — only that pseudonym and a badge.

Your identity is verified once, privately, by our independent provider, in the EU — an official document and a liveness check, about one minute. That is what keeps minors out of selling. Weared receives neither a copy of the document nor any biometric data: only the result, the date and your date of birth.

Photographing without giving yourself away

The majority of unintentional identifications come from images. A few habits are enough to avoid them:

  • Face and distinctive marks out of frame — tattoos, prominent moles, recognisable jewellery.
  • Neutral background: avoid post lying on a piece of furniture, a family photo, a view through the window that pins down your neighbourhood.
  • Metadata: some photos carry geolocation. Weared strips this data on publication, but get into the habit of disabling your device's location.
  • Mirrors and reflections: check that no reflection reveals your face or an identifiable object.

Our register always remains suggestive and elegant. A beautiful piece is shown off by light and material, never by the explicit.

The payment that leaves no trace in your name

A conventional bank transfer carries your name, your IBAN, sometimes a telling reference. That is a breach. At Weared, payment is by card (Apple Pay, Google Pay) or in bitcoin (Lightning): no bank details are exchanged between members, and bitcoin leaves no trace on a statement.

And the mechanics are deliberately simple: with direct bitcoin, the buyer pays your own Lightning address at purchase and Weared never touches the money; by card or under the Weared guarantee, Weared collects and pays you out (under the guarantee, once shipping is proven). Trust also rests on the sellers' public reputation (completed sales), the mandatory postal tracking number, moderation and the dispute procedure.

Receiving and shipping without giving your address

This is the most sensitive point, and the one most often overlooked elsewhere. A parcel label usually displays an address in plain sight. Weared relies on the Swiss network of PickPost pick-up points and My Post 24 lockers: you drop off your parcel there via a code / QR, without your home address ever appearing. In Switzerland, the buyer chooses a My Post 24 locker, a PickPost point or home delivery (the only option for shipments abroad); with a locker or pick-up point, their address is never passed on.

Shipping is neutral: plain packaging, with no mention of the nature of the contents or of the brand. No one, in your circle or in the buyer's, can guess what is passing through.

A Swiss house, a clear framework

Weared is a Swiss entity open to every country except those under Swiss sanctions, with no physical shipments, for now, to the United States or to countries that ban imports of used clothing: prices in the listing’s currency (CHF for a seller in Switzerland, EUR for a seller in France or elsewhere). Reserved for adults (18+), the space is carefully moderated to remain a hushed and respectful place. You keep control over what you offer, to whom, and at what price. Discretion is not a marketing promise: it is the very architecture of the platform.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to provide identity documents to sell?

Yes. Identity verification (official document + liveness check) is required before publishing. It runs through a certified provider in the EU: Weared receives neither a copy of the document nor any biometric data, only the result, the date and your date of birth. Your anonymity towards buyers stays total: they only see a pseudonym and a badge.

Can the buyer know my name or my address?

Never. Exchanges go through an internal messaging system, payment is by card (Apple Pay, Google Pay) or in bitcoin (Lightning) with no bank details exchanged between members, and you drop off the parcel at a PickPost point or a My Post 24 locker: your home address appears nowhere.

Can the payment appear on a statement in my name?

In bitcoin, no: no IBAN, no reference. By card, the Stripe payout lands in your own account; the buyer never sees your bank details.

What happens if the buyer does not pay after shipping?

The buyer always pays before you ship: with direct bitcoin, to your address at purchase; by card or under the guarantee, Weared has already collected and pays you out. So you never ship uncovered.

Is Weared reserved for Switzerland?

Weared is a Swiss entity, active throughout Switzerland — Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lugano —, and also open, under the Terms and Conditions, to France and other countries (except countries under Swiss sanctions; for a physical item, not the United States for now, nor countries that ban imports of used clothing), with prices in the listing’s currency (CHF for a seller in Switzerland, EUR for a seller in France or elsewhere), and reserved for adults (18+).
