Paying and being paid in crypto (Bitcoin): how it works

Crypto payment often intimidates before it is understood. At Weared, we chose it for a precise reason: it is the only way to settle a transaction without a name, an IBAN or a reference circulating. Neither the seller nor the buyer has to disclose their banking details.

This guide explains, in clear language and without jargon, how to pay and receive in Bitcoin on the house, and what the trust between buyer and seller really rests on.

Why Bitcoin rather than a bank transfer

A conventional bank transfer, a card payment or a mobile payment app all leave a named trace: your name on the other party's statement, sometimes a reference that says too much. For an intimate piece, that is a breach in your anonymity.

Bitcoin works differently: the payment moves from one wallet to another, without passing through your named accounts and without your identity being attached to it. No banking details are exchanged between the buyer and the seller. It is this property, and not speculation, that interests us.

What you need to get started

All you need is a Bitcoin wallet. It is an application, free of charge, that acts as a digital purse. You hold your funds there and keep sole control of them.

  • Download a reputable wallet app to your phone.
  • Carefully note down your recovery phrase and keep it offline.
  • Fund your wallet from a Swiss exchange, in Swiss francs, if you are starting from scratch.

You do not need to be an expert. A Bitcoin payment, in practice, amounts to scanning a QR code and confirming.

For the buyer: paying in a few steps

At the point of ordering, Weared generates a payment request via our BTCPay system. Concretely:

  • An amount in Swiss francs is converted into Bitcoin at the rate of the moment.
  • A QR code and a payment address are displayed.
  • The buyer opens their wallet, scans the QR, checks the amount and confirms.
  • The payment is detected automatically — no card number to enter, no named form.

The operation takes a few minutes, the time for the network to confirm.

Direct payment: the heart of trust

Paying a stranger before receiving, or shipping before being paid: that is what blocks most transactions elsewhere. Weared resolves this dilemma through direct payment, backed by a verifiable framework of trust.

  • The buyer settles directly to the seller's Lightning or crypto address: the house does not hold the money from sales paid in bitcoin.
  • The seller is credited immediately, without waiting for any release or requesting a withdrawal, and then ships via a pick-up point.
  • The buyer, for their part, relies on the seller's public reputation (completed sales), on the mandatory postal tracking number, on age verification and on our dispute and moderation procedure.

This way, the seller never ships uncovered, and the buyer never commits blindly. Trust no longer rests on one's word alone, but on things that can be checked.

Receiving your funds, and converting them if you wish

As soon as the purchase is made, the amount arrives directly in your Bitcoin wallet, with no intermediary and no release delay. You are free to keep it or to convert it into Swiss francs via a Swiss exchange, at your own pace.

A word on volatility: the Bitcoin rate fluctuates. As settlement is made at the rate of the moment of the sale, the difference is generally negligible in the short term. If you prefer stability, convert soon after receipt. Nothing obliges you to.

Discretion and common sense

Crypto payment protects your anonymity, provided you keep good habits: keep your recovery phrase secret and offline, never share your credentials, and be wary of anyone who offers to leave the platform to settle 'directly'. On Weared, everything happens within the house — messaging, orders, postal tracking and the dispute procedure included. It is precisely this framework that protects you.

Frequently asked questions
Do I already need to own Bitcoin to buy or sell?

To buy, you need a funded wallet, which you can top up in Swiss francs via a Swiss exchange. To sell, you receive Bitcoin that you are free to keep or to convert.

Does the Bitcoin payment appear on my bank statement?

No. The payment moves from wallet to wallet, without passing through a named account and without any exchange of an IBAN between the buyer and the seller.

Who actually receives the money from a sale?

The buyer pays the seller directly in crypto, to the seller's own address: Weared does not hold those funds, does not withhold them and does not release them. What protects the buyer is the sellers' public sales history, the mandatory postal tracking number, the dispute procedure and moderation, and age verification.

Is Bitcoin's volatility a risk for the sale?

Settlement is made at the rate of the moment, so the difference is generally negligible in the short term. If you wish to avoid any variation, convert into Swiss francs soon after receipt.

What if I have never used cryptocurrency?

No expertise is required. In practice, paying comes down to scanning a QR code and confirming in a wallet app. The amount goes straight to the seller's address, without ever passing through the house.
